Looking for Writers

Perl Magazine is looking for writers!!.

Any article about Perl, uses of Perl, projects that depend on Perl and any other article related not only to Perl but to Open Source community and Free Software are welcome too.

See the articles page for more details

  1. You should publish the “call for articles” on several websites like perlmonks.org or use.perl.org!

  2. Thank you for your comment.
    You are totally right!!

I didn’t have enough time to work on it. I will refresh this site ASAP. Please keep subscribed to the feed.

  3. I do wish Perl Magazine every success, but I have notice that articles about Perl continue to dwindle in The Linux Journal.

I remember when The Perl Journal came out. In the early 1990s, I was thrilled, and able, to pay whatever subscription price The Perl Journal needed to charge: Despite the fact that electronic publications are “green,” there is no substitute for a printed magazine or book.

One problem that Perl Magazine faces is a limited audience. (This fact is true of any Perl resource — now, more than ever, because people want to read about and use today’s “darling languages,” including PHP and Ruby.)

I hated to see The Perl Journal end publication, especially the printed version. I would gladly pay for printed copies of Perl Magazine at Lulu.com.

Another problem that Perl Magazine definitely faces is a rival publication, The Perl Review, edited by brian de foy (a respected and well-known figure for years in the Perl community).

I “discovered” The Perl Review a few months ago, despite the fact that it began publication in 2002. The Perl Review has had to scale back within the last two months. There is NO option for a printed version, and the subscription price has dropped to $5.00 for download access to the PDF-only version of The Perl Review, plus access to subscriber-only content, such as on-line code and back issues.

I have subscribed to The Perl Review, but I wil be surprised if I will be able to renew my subscription after a year. The Perl Review, I fear, will follow the fate of The Perl Journal.

Writing Perl code is a painful and awkward process for me, but I can accomplish tasks with Perl, despite taking more time than I should, that I cannot accomplish with another scripting language — and writing a short ANSI C program takes is inefficient compared to Perl scripting.

I wish that I had the expertise to contribute content to Perl Magazine, but I certainly will “spread the word.”

If maintaining the ‘perlmagazine.com’ domain is a year-to-year question, perhaps approaching The Perl Review about a collaboration/merge is an idea worth considering? I would rather have one on-line Perl periodical than two struggling, fading ones.

    With wishes for success,

    David

  4. David I really appreciate your comments.
Actually I’m doing many changes to the site and after one month or two my plan is to spread out the voice about it.
Thank you for suggestions and help. This Magazine will need it!

I’m not doing it as a business. I’m doing this because I love Perl language and I want to use this domain name to create one more point of reference for Perl language. Nowadays it’s not so expensive to create online and paper based magazines so I think the effort worth it :)

  5. I just learned Perl to accomplish my work in a easy way. I can do my job really quick. A month ago my boss toldo me: “Another man should take six month to organize it, and you took two days!!! How U can do that????”
Perl is just Pleasant but it have no hard marketing like Java or the Microsoft languages.
I’d love to write articles for Perl magazine. But onde I’m not an English native speaker, I’d appreciate the favor of reviews over my job, if possible. Some times I’m afraid to looks like Yoda when writing!
Lets reborn Perl to its deserved populariti.

  6. Thank you for your comments.
Don’t worry about the English, this is a non-profit space. I’m not native speaker also. The point is to let people understand the concepts and promote the use of Perl.

I’m still working on this site, due a lack of time it’s a long time I didn’t update it. Before the end of this year it will make a huge change and I will start to promote it. I hope that Perl enthusiast and new comers will enjoy it.

    Thank you for following.
